This is a CAD dwg drawing of a SHS Beam Column Endplate Moment Connection Detail. Square hollow section ( SHS ) columns are a little more tedious in terms of connection types, since bolts cannot be tightened from the inside.
In order to achieve a moment connection between an SHS steel beam and such SHS column, one way is to weld a small SHS piece with a full penetration butt weld onto the column and then create an endplate splice moment connection with the actual steel beam. This method of connection is easier at the construction site and could be much more preferred.
